Speedo Spring Fling Meet – Recap

Wow.. what a fantastic meet!  Congratulations to all of our swimmers on doing such an incredible job all weekend at our Speedo Spring Fling meet.

There are moments I call “aha” moments where as a coach I can see positive changes in our swimmers and team… This weekend was one of them.  We had so many great swims at this meet and the coaches are beyond thrilled.  Besides the many best times we saw fantastic leaps in our swimmers’ understanding of how to race, how to swim events, how to do their start, turns finishes etc.  We feel a great positive momentum  building and are excited about the future.

On top of the fantastic performances by our swimmers our parents once again proved they are the best!  Thank you so much for all your work and efforts to running another incredible meet that swimmers, teams, and families love to attend!  My appreciation for your efforts cannot be expressed enough.  It is the truest example of “Stronger Together” that is the theme of our site.

I am so thankful for all of you and thrilled to have you on our team.   The future of our program looks bright. Thank you once again for all you help and as all ways… Let’s Go Bullets!

Urgent - Speedo Capital City Classic Meet Sign-up Reminder

Our site hosted Speedo Capital City Classic (June 10-12) is quickly approaching and we need all of our swimmer to sign-up now.  This is a site hosted meet at the Nelson Center Pool and we highly encourage all of our Springfield Bullets to participate in this fun and exciting event.

The process is simple. Sign into your account on our team web site and click on the Events/Meet tab. From there, click the
meet you desire and select the Attend/Decline button. You will be brought to a webpage on our team website that will allow you to commit or not commit your child to the meet. If you have more than one child swimming you will see them listed on this page.

Here are the steps if you ARE NOT GOING

  • Click on the Member Names [they default to Not Committed]

  • Then click on the Signup Record pull-down and select No

  • If No, just click on the [Save Changes] button to save the changes

  • If you have more than one child, repeat the same task as listed above

Here are the steps if you ARE GOING:

  • Click on the Signup Record pull-down and select Yes

  • Once yes is selected, you will see the sessions that are available for this meet. You are signing up by Days only.

  • Check the Checkbox to the left of the name for those Sessions you would like/can swim

  • Once you have finished, click on the Submit Button in the lower right

  • Repeat the process for additional swimmers

It is that simple. Once the entry deadline passes, the coaches will select the swimmers events and we will send an email out to families letting them know that entries have been posted and how to proceed. Swimmers and families will not be able to select events for the meet. The coaching staff picks events for the athletes for all meets we attend. If you have questions about your swimmer's events after the entries are posted, you will need to speak to your group coach.

Again, he highly encourage all of our Springfield Bullets swimmers to participate in this meet.

Great Read - How to Help Young Athletes Learn From Mistakes - By Patrick Cohn, Ph.D. and Lisa Cohn

From the baseball field to the tennis court, mistakes are a natural part of sports. Whether your kid drops the game-winning pass, double-faults their serve at match point, or misses a short putt on the final hole, mistakes will happen.

As parents, we can't prevent our kids from making mistakes, but we can teach them how to deal with their disappointments and learn from their experiences. With mistakes and adversity, some negative emotions will naturally occur. But often these emotions can cause athletes to stay stuck in a past performance, which can undermine their confidence. Great Read - Parents’ Guide to Competitive Swimming Success

The following article is by the coach of one of the most successful age-group programs in the country. I strongly encourage every parent on our team to look at Coach Brooks’ article and use it as a guide as your swimmers progress through our program. There is a lot of material, but I found all of it to be relevant to questions and situations that come up almost every day on the deck and at the meets. READ MORE HERE
